Len Anderson: Class of 1965

Len_Anderson.JPGLeonard Anderson was the first graduate alphabetically of LU in 1965.

At the graduation ceremony one honours student crossed the stage first, followed by five Science students.  Then, forty or so crossed the stage to be given their B.A. Degrees led by Len Anderson.

So Len was the first grad to get a BA at LU at the graduation.

Len then attended Queens University and began his teaching career in Thunder Bay. He taught Geography and World Issues. Len took a leave and taught in Australia for a year

Len escorted students from Thunder Bay on school trips to the Soviet Unio, Borneo, Egypt and Costa Rica. Upon retiring, he continued to teach World Issues in Malaysia for three years.maryanderson.JPG

One of his greatest adventures was to be part of a group to build a school in Rwanda and be involved with hiring and training of teachers while opening the school.He has traveled throughout six continents.

Len married his University Sweethart, Mary MacDonald. They met at Lakehead. Len was from Fort William, and Mary was from Port Arthur. Mary was the Carnival Queen in 1964. Mary graduated with a BA in Psychology and Sociology from Lakehead in May of 1966. They married in June of the same year. They both attended Teacher’s College at Queens University. They have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.
